Cheadle Mosque will be hosting its “Open Day Extravaganza” on Saturday 27th July 2019; the event now in its fifteenth year has a great tradition of bringing people together.
The event has grown in success each year and despite last year’s rain, it did little to dampen the community’s spirit. The attractions this year include: Water Zorbs and Water Boats, Chocolate Fountain, Food Street, A “Spectacular Science” show, Donkey Rides, Strongman Competition, a variety of stalls and the legendary BBQ to name just a few.
Rifat Mirza, a veteran organiser of the event says “The Open Day at Cheadle Mosque is a lovely family day out – not only is it about having fun, we also raise money for charity. This year we are supporting MIND – the mental health charity, Millie’s Trust and A bed every night – Andy Burnham’s Homeless charity. The community have always been very generous and we have a long tradition of supporting local charities.”
Abid Khan, one of the Imams at the Mosque added “These events are all about people meeting with each other and challenging the stereotypes that are often batted around. There is a growing trend of a fear of Islam, but if one was to come to a mosque and meet Muslims they would honestly realise their fears are unfounded. We would really welcome everyone to attend.”
“The event is organised by a large team of volunteers – women, men and children; it is incredibly satisfying to see families from diverse backgrounds coming together and enjoying the day – it makes all the hard work worthwhile!” said Mushaba Younis, one of the Mosque volunteers.
